New: Is the motion below true? Apparently not ex-Labour Newcastle Councillor Michael Dolman confirms that there was no such motion on the 2nd February 2007. If David Leech, Richard Gorton and others were aware of this motion!  It begs the question how could they have possibly voted for it?

Motion from Newcastle-under-Lyme District Labour Party to the County Labour Party, the County Labour Group, the County Council Leader and Deputy Leader and ail Labour County Councillors

Re. Elderly, Respite and Learning Disability Centre Closures

'This District Party deplores the way in which the County Council has handled the closure of residential care homes.

We cannot understand why proper plans were not in place prior to the closure announcement.

A proper strategy for carefully considered individual care plans must be in place before any decision is taken on home closures.

This District Party deplores furthermore the manner in which this policy of accelerated, total closure of the County's elderly care, learning disability and respite facilities was presented to the County Labour Group meeting on 29th January, 2007 without prior agenda notice or discussion.

We believe that yet again the County Leadership is responsible for a very poorly handled decision. This has also been demonstrated by the apology necessary over the handling of the initial home closure proposals under Changing Lives and the recent fiasco over job evaluation.

This manner of decision-making, which affects some of the most vulnerable members of our society as well as many Labour supporters, brings the Labour Party at Staffordshire County Council into disrepute and needs to be challenged by Labour County Councillors as a matter of urgency.'

Carried unanimously on 2nd  February. 2007

Ashley Howells
Deputy Labour Group Leader
Newcastle-under-Lyme District Labour Party

This document has been produced to curry favour with disenchanted Labour voters who are turning to other political parties to represent them.

How can you ever trust these people again!
